AFIRE, the association for global investors focused on institutional real estate in the United States, today announced that it has hired Asmait Tewelde as its new Meeting Director. She will be responsible for management, strategy, and oversight for AFIRE’s annual and special events.
“We are all excited to welcome Asmait to AFIRE,” said Gunnar Branson, CEO of AFIRE. “As an accomplished events and education professional with wide-ranging experience in associations, nonprofits, and education, Asmait is an exciting addition to this essential forum for thought leadership in global institutional real estate investment.”
Tewelde brings more than a decade of experience in association leadership, most recently as Director of Professional Development and Events for the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). In this role, she oversaw large, multi-day conferences and events, and collaborated on fundraising, marketing, and e-learning. Prior to ASPA, she served as Meetings Coordinator for the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), which supports more than 5,000 economic development professionals from around the world. She has also served as a contractor for the Department of Labor, and in customer support for education-focused nonprofit organizations.
“AFIRE stands at an important intersection of responsibility, insight, and investment leadership,” said Tewelde. “I’m excited to work alongside our members and partners to create truly memorable events and pathways to engagement with the future of real estate investing.”
From 2008 to 2009, Tewelde served as a member of AmeriCorps specializing in English education for adult learners. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Michigan State University, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Tigrinya.
