Sustainability and Resiliency After COVID-19
An AFIRE Virtual Event (Members Only)
May 28, 2020, 10:30-11:30 ET
Even before the pandemic, sustainability was an increasingly vital principle for both social responsibility and investment philosophy.
Rather than impede the evolution of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles in real estate, the crisis has already been accelerating the changes already underway for our industry—while also introducing new and important trends for understanding sustainability and resiliency in the future.
What has this crisis taught us about sustainability and resiliency? What has worked so far, and what practices are going to change in the future? What trends are going to become more important as global economics, politics, and priorities continue to evolve over the coming months and years?
Panelists:
- Gunnar Branson, CEO, AFIRE (Moderator)
- Mary K. Ludgin, Ph.D., Senior Managing Director and Director of Global Investment Research, Heitman
- Jerry Speltz, PE, Director of Engineering, Barings Real Estate

ABOUT AFIRE VIRTUAL EVENTS
Launched in early 2020 as part of AFIRE’s membership events program, AFIRE Virtual Events provide a recurring digital format for AFIRE members to stay connected beyond in-person meetings.
AFIRE Virtual Events include weekly, members-only, town hall-style meetings; simple 60-minute, discussion-style sessions (hosted on BlueJeans), with AFIRE member panelists and presenters talking about current trends and ideas in an accessible, conversational format.
Other AFIRE Virtual Events outside the weekly town halls focus on specialized and timely topics, as well as supporting ongoing education and research.
AFIRE uses BlueJeans, a virtual meeting platform, for our Virtual Events. For an optimal experience, virtual meeting attendees should access BlueJeans via Google Chrome or the BlueJeans event app.
AFIRE Virtual Events are recorded and made available for members only.
